Cragganmore war die erste Destillerie in Schottland, deren Standort ausgewählt und speziell gebaut wurde, um die Nähe zur Strathspey Railway zu nutzen. John Smith, der zuvor an den Destillerien Macallan, Glenlivet und Glenfarclas beteiligt war, gründete Cragganmore im Jahr 1869.
Cragganmore ist eine der produktivsten Destillerien in der Banffshire-Region und deren Whisky gilt als der komplexeste Strathspey Single Malt.
