Laphroaig is a whiskey distillery on the Scottish Hebrides island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory group. The distillery buildings are on the Scottish National Registers. When making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor.
