The third bottling of the award-winning Elements series was born out of pure curiosity – and an unplanned fire in the malthouse's drying kiln. Due to unusually prolonged heat and elevated temperatures, the barley malt stored over the fire became more intensely peated. Laphroig used this fortunate coincidence to create a whisky with a whole new world of flavors.
What is special about Laphroig's Elements 3.0?
While Elements 1.0 and 2.0 were defined by changes in mashing and fermentation times, Elements 3.0 focuses on heat: the extended, hot drying highlights new notes – from dark roasted chocolate to spicy espresso to a boundless chimney smoke finish.
Who is this whisky for?
Fans of the Elements series who want to understand the diverse influences of heat, mash, and fermentation on the classic Laphroaig character. Ideal for lovers of characterful, playful, limited-edition innovations
What does Laphroaig Elements 3.0 taste like?
The nose reveals intense aromas of charcoal and charred peat. These smoky notes are complemented by maritime sea salt aromas, delicate vanilla, fresh lemon zest, and sweet butterscotch. In the background, hints of cinnamon, plum, and dates round out the profile.
The palate unfolds with a powerful and sparkling peat smoke that meets roasted cocoa beans and bitter dark chocolate. With each sip, spicy fruit notes of blackberry and plum emerge, accompanied by the elegant sweetness of a crème brûlée.
The finish is long and dry, carried by salty notes, soft leather, and deep, sooty chimney smoke—a lasting impression that lingers long after the last sip.
