Unofficially, the Ardbeg Distillery has been distilling since 1794 - in 1815 the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg.
"Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic and means something like `little hill`.
The distillery is situated on the south coast of the whiskey region of Islay.
This Ardbeg whiskey is after a very remote and lonely area with the cape `Mull of Oa` which is located as a headland along the island.
The special thing about this whiskey is definitely its maturation before marriage.
The contained whiskeys are in the sweet PX sherry cask, in the spicy Virgin Oak cask and Stored in American oak barrels.
Colour: Shining gold.
Nose: Sweet, warming, peaty, smoked herbs, tar, toffee, butterscotch, aniseed, fennel, lemon, dates, peaches, bananas.
Taste: Dry, smoky, nutty, smoky tea leaves, grilled artichokes, nutmeg, cinnamon, milk chocolate, syrup, aniseed.
Finish: Long lasting, slightly sweet, floral overtones.
