Unofficially, the Ardbeg Distillery has been distilling since 1794 - in 1815 the distillery was bought by John McDougall and officially opened under the name Ardbeg.
"Ardbeg" comes from the Gaelic and means something like "little hill". .
The distillery is located on the south coast of the Islay whiskey region.

The Ardbeg Wee Beastie matures in ex-Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks for just five years. This Ardbeg was also named after a mythical creature from the peat bogs. 'Wee Beastie', a little beast native to the Scottish moors.
