This gin is made using a "cold distillation technique" which is very unusual. In a normal gin distillation, the botanicals need to be brought to around 78ºC before they start boiling and releasing all of their flavors. During cold distillation, also known as vacuum distillation, a vacuum is created so that the botanicals can be brought to a boil at 25-40 °C. Thus, the botanicals remain intact and only the alcohol is distilled. Oxley is distilled at -5°C - which is extremely low even for vacuum distillation. But that is exactly what makes this gin special. Scientists worked on this method for eight years before it was ready for use. In 2009, this gin was first launched by the owner Bacardi.
This gin is only produced in small batches. 14 different botanicals, including juniper, grapefruit, lemon, vanilla, anise, liquorice, cocoa, nutmeg and coriander are used for production.
