Octomore, named after a farm near Port Charlotte on Islay, Scotland, had its own distillery between 1816 and 1852 before it closed. In 2002, Bruichladdich began producing heavily peated Octomore whiskey at their distillery facilities. This was a standalone brand alongside the unpeated Bruichladdich range and the heavily peated Port Charlotte. Octomore is characterized by its extremely high phenolic content and the use of different barrel types for aging. Following Rémy Cointreau`s acquisition of Bruichladdich in 2012, the distillery continued its innovation efforts with Octomore and continued to release new expressions of this intensely peated whiskey.
