On the picturesque northeast coast of the Scottish island of Islay lies the Ardnahoe Distillery, which opened in 2019. Although still young, it has already made a name for itself among established whisky producers.
The distillery is the passion project of the Laing family, who bring decades of experience in the whisky business (Hunter Laing & Co.) to the table. Building it on the banks of the deep freshwater Ardnahoe loch, whose water is used in production, was the fulfillment of a dream. Ardnahoe combines aesthetically sophisticated, modern architecture with time-honored craftsmanship. The equipment includes classic copper stills, wooden washbacks, and, uniquely for Islay, worm tubs for condensation, which impart complexity and rich character to the distillate. The resulting Islay whisky is traditionally peated and combines the maritime influence of the coast with fruity and smoky flavor profiles, refined by maturation in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
Visitors are warmly invited to explore the centre, take part in guided tours and tastings and enjoy the atmosphere on one of the most beautiful whisky routes.
