For this special release, a very old Invergordon with a rather reserved and aromatic influence from a 2nd fill sherry cask was chosen. This cask added faint vinous and fruity notes but overall it can be said to have enhanced the whiskey's natural character rather than adding an obvious layer of sherry. Instead of enhancing the sweet notes of vanilla, the typical aromatic notes of medicinal herbs become evident. The result is a very balsamic grain whiskey with a pleasantly tannic touch and even hints of unsweetened black coffee, as well as aromas of wood and leather. The finale is particularly peppery, spicy, austere and elegant.
