Kilkerran Heavily Peated Small Batch 12 is a reliable choice for those who love heavily peated whiskies. The peat is mature and powerful, always accompanied by an enticing, vibrant fruitiness that makes every sip exciting and intense.

What does Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch #12 taste like? On the nose, intense smoky notes such as tar, iodine, and motor oil blend harmoniously with softer hints of buttery pastry, ripe peaches, and pears. Gradually, lemony freshness, a touch of chalk, and maritime impressions emerge. These are joined by delicate grassy nuances and a hint of gooseberries, with the overall impression becoming somewhat softer and more balanced over time.

On the palate, the whisky is clearly and distinctly fruity. Aromas of pineapple and mango are accompanied by sweet pears and a touch of pink grapefruit. Beneath this lies a pronounced mineral structure with chalky tones and a deep, sooty note. The peat smoke is significantly stronger than initially expected and develops slowly until a subtle hint of grilled meat emerges.

The finish is long and intense, characterized by coal smoke and a slightly plastic quality. Smoky fruit aromas, such as smoked peach, linger, along with a mineral, waxy texture that resonates long after the last sip.

Why is this batch being delivered in the tall bottle?

This whisky is being offered in a classic, tall bottle, rather than the usual squat shape associated with Springbank whiskies. A fire at the glass supplier temporarily affected production. While regular Springbank production is expected to remain unaffected, the Kilkerran bottling may be available in the taller bottles for the time being.
