Bunnahabhain Eirigh na Greine (meaning dawn) is an Islay malt you wouldn't expect. This makes the Eirigh na Greine so interesting and exciting for fans of Scottish Islay Whiskey. Islay single malt whiskeys are usually characterized by a certain sharpness and bold originality. But the Bunnahabhain Eirigh na Greine goes its own way. The northernmost of the Islay distilleries has produced a special distillate with the Eirigh na Greine. Its aromatic structure is based on aging in former Italian and French red wine barrels.
The single malt whiskey shows up on the nose with appealing notes of dried fruits and roasted hazelnuts, in harmony with notes of candy and marzipan. On the palate, the Bunnahabhain Eirigh na Greine is very smooth, with fruity aromas of ripe cherries, prunes, apricots and oranges coming to the fore. Finally, a light oak note and a hint of cocoa are perceptible. The finish is warm and spicy with nice nut aromas.
