The Lillet Rouge is made by skilfully blending selected red grape varieties and then carefully combined with cold macerated oranges. After careful maturation, an aromatic aperitif is created that can not only be enjoyed neat, but also serves as the basis for a variety of refreshing cocktails such as the Lillet Soleil, Lillet D'Amour or Lillet Pasque.
The wine used to make Lillet Rouge comes largely from the rich wine-growing region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The red wine forms the basis, to which, in addition to the oranges, a selection of aromatic spices is added. This versatile ensemble is marinated in alcohol, including the peels, with the orange peels coming from Tunisia, Spain and Morocco and the bitter oranges from Haiti. Even cinchona from Peru contributes to this flavor melange.
The end product of Lillet Rouge consists of 15 percent liqueur and 85 percent wine, which is aged for up to six months to develop its fruity character. This aperitif then becomes the basis for light-footed cocktails and aperitifs, which are served chilled and pamper the senses with their aromatic diversity
What does Lillet Rouge taste like?
The ruby red of the wine immediately catches the eye and promises a deep and complex taste experience. The nose reveals a tempting melange of extremely ripe, dark fruits that caress the senses with their intense aroma.
Once tasted, the wine has a strong texture, with the freshness of juicy oranges and the abundance of ripe red fruits harmonizing in perfect balance. The nuances of vanilla give it a gentle, creamy texture, while a subtle hint of spice gives the taste an additional depth and sophistication.
The finish of the wine is long-lasting and impresses with its full presence on the palate. The tannins are soft and supple, creating a balanced finish that rounds off the enjoyment of this outstanding wine. This ruby red drop is a true masterpiece that takes the senses on a taste journey and fills the soul with its elegance.
